You saw the reel, now let’s dive deeper into the sun-kissed shores of Tuscany!
Forget the vineyards for a moment, because today we're exploring the stunning Tuscan coastline.
Think golden sands, crystal-clear waters, and charming seaside towns. My recent Instagram reel only scratched the surface, so I’m sharing more about three of my absolute favorite spots: Argentario, Castiglioncello, and San Vincenzo.
Argentario: A Jewel on the Coast
Monte Argentario, a clifftop vista jutting into the Tyrrhenian Sea, is a true gem. Argentario offers a dramatic, rugged coastline dotted with hidden coves and picturesque harbors. Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole are the two main towns, each with its own unique charm. I loved exploring the narrow, winding streets of Porto Ercole, imagining the pirates who once sought refuge here. The water is incredibly clear, perfect for snorkeling and diving. If you're feeling adventurous, rent a boat and explore the hidden calette (small coves) along the coast.
Hot tips: Argentario's beaches tend to be smaller and rockier than those in other parts of Tuscany. Water shoes are a must! You can also try Ortebello beaches which are sandy. Parking can also be tricky, especially during peak season, so arrive early or consider using public transportation. |

Castiglioncello: Art, History, and Turquoise Waters
Further north along the coast lies Castiglioncello, a charming village known for its art, history, and stunning turquoise waters. This area was a favorite haunt of artists and intellectuals in the 19th and 20th centuries, drawn to its natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere. The beaches here are a mix of sand and rocks, with crystal-clear water perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Be sure to visit the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Castiglioncello to learn more about the area's rich history.
Take a stroll along the Lungomare Alberto Sordi, enjoying the sea breeze and the views. Castiglioncello also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes serving fresh seafood and local specialties. Don't miss the opportunity to try cacciucco, a traditional Tuscan seafood stew. |

San Vincenzo: Sandy Shores and Family Fun
If you're looking for long, sandy beaches perfect for families, San Vincenzo is your spot. This lively town boasts a wide, golden beach with shallow waters, making it ideal for swimming and playing. There are plenty of beach clubs offering umbrellas, sun loungers, and water sports activities. San Vincenzo is also home to a marina, where you can admire the yachts and enjoy a gelato while watching the sunset.
| Beyond the beach, San Vincenzo offers a range of shops, restaurants, and bars. Take a walk along the main street, Corso Italia, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere. For a taste of local cuisine, try the pappardelle al cinghiale (pasta with wild boar sauce). Also, be sure to watch out for the incredible fireworks displays during the summer months! |
